Contrasting efforts from last Saturday's two bets with Northgate Lad bouncing back towards his best and if he didn't miss the kick, life would have been easier for him. Whether he'd have won is another story but there was only a neck in it at the finish. Instant Attraction was very poor, showing pace early as expected before weakening away inside the final couple of furlongs. He needs to refind his form somehow and if this performance is anything to go by, that's going to be difficult. Being on such a workable mark is always going to keep the horse on the "of interest" list but something must be holding him back from peak well-being.

-2.00pts on the day.

It's a quiet time for the service as I'm trying to figure a few things out but we'll get busier again in the not too distant future. Two bets for today, the first being one of last year's big-priced runner-ups, Master The World. He's a horse of serious talent on a going day and looks nicely treated off 103, particularly on the back of what was a sound run in the Royal Hunt Cup. That was his first outing since February and he could come on for the run. Shraaoh is an obvious shout in the Old Newton Cup and I'm convinced that he's thrown-in off 93, but he has been a slow burner. It will eventually all click together for him and maybe that'll be today.

2:25 - Master The World - 1pt @ 14/1 (General) - withdrawn. Money returned. Jackpot?

3:15 - Shraaoh - 1pt @ 9/2 (General) - 3rd @ 9/2; ran well but didn't travel as was hoped.
