Ascot Racecourse

Another day, another dollar... lost. Showdaisy drifted to 11/1 but ran a cracking race to finish third at Musselburgh under a good ride and I thought she might be coming through to win it a furlong from home. That was an impossible task as the winner kept galloping but it was a top effort. Thikriyaat ended up in the same position (third) at York but I think Jim Crowley gave him a terrible ride, at least from a positional sense. Had they sat a bit handier through the early stages, a win could have come their way. Of the other two, Orion's Bow barely had a race having failed to get any sort of a run, whilst Heaven's Guest was amiss.

-5.00pts on the day.

Big week ahead, one that's more important than usual given the significant downswing we've been suffering since the start of May. Day one probably isn't the best one for me with just a single handicap on offer but I've found four bets in three races. Nebo and Romanised run in the Coventry and both look like talented sorts capable of better yet. Whether they have the raw class for Group 2's at this early stage of their development remains to be seen but it's a race full of unknowns so I'm happy to have a go at the prices on offer. Romanised will be really interesting at 7f & a mile - if not further - with his pedigree being laced with stamina.

The King's Stand has a funny look to it but I can understand the support for Marsha. She's no value at around 3/1, though, and taking a punt on one of the bigger priced runners is worthwhile. Cotai Glory hasn't shown his form this season but was second in this race twelve months ago and sprinters are the oddest of beasts, so a return to his best would be far from a surprise. Hills will have aimed him at this all year as well. Last, but not least, is Yorkidding and she has been in fine order for her four runs in 2017. This is a mini-lottery but she stays well, has course form and is a simplistic ride. I think she can go close if luck is on-side.

Royal Ascot:
3:05 - Nebo - 1.50pts @ 12/1 (General) - 9th @ 10/1; ran quite well, draw gave him no chance.
3:05 - Romanised - 0.50pts @ 14/1 (General) - 7th @ 12/1; cracking effort, slow break costly.
3:40 - Cotai Glory - 1pt @ 33/1 (General) - 7th @ 28/1; 2-lengths behind second, more like it.
5:00 - Yorkidding - 1pt @ 16/1 (General) - 8th @ 14/1; made some progress, then faded away.
