JBR – August 18th

James Boyle
August 18, 2021

The last punting day was none too enjoyable! Method got out of the stalls properly and they tried to make the running on him, which didn't work out. He ran better than in the July Cup at least but connections clearly have a job on their hands to get him back on track properly. Hopefully they will sometime soon.

Diocles Of Rome drifted majorly in the betting and was given a very considerate ride, not asked much of a question at all. After a while off the track, it looks like it was a spin to put him right for some other day and I'd imagine he'll be performing a lot better next time out. One to keep an eye on for a run or two.

The lure of Son And Sannie pulled me in again but it didn't pay off. He has been out since and thank Christ he didn't win! He went within a neck of doing so at 12/1 in the Jump Jockey's Nunthorpe at York and that would have been super frustrating. All going well, he should be striking in the not too distant future.

-3.00pts on the day.

Been AWOL for a while - moving house is no fun, having a teething one-year-old is no fun and getting Covid-19 isn't a whole pile of fun either! Will play things by ear but hope to be back betting more often now.

1.50 York - Hurricane Ivor - 1pt @ 8/1 (General)

Hurricane Ivor is a very talented horse and could bounce back after finding conditions at Goodwood too soft in the Stewards' Cup a couple of weeks ago. Before that, he was progressing really nicely, dead-heating at Sandown (although he clearly won that!) before being miles clear on his side at Ascot but coming up a short-head behind Significantly on the other side. That was a big effort and off a few pounds higher, he's not handicapped out of this equation. If he copes with York's demands, I think he'll go close.

4.10 York - Future Investment - 1pt @ 14/1 (BetVic, Hills; 12/1 General)

Future Investment is yet to score this season but got too far back in the Chester Cup on his return, didn't overly enjoy the ground at Haydock and then ran a couple of big races to place at Ascot and Goodwood. The latter was a career best performance on the figures, hence why he's up another couple of pounds, but he won over two-miles in August of last year and stepping up in trip again could eke out more improvement. A better surface won't do any harm either and he looks a few points on the large side at 12-14/1.
