Two good performances yesterday but sadly only two places to add to the slate. Throne Hall bounced back to form down in trip and tried his heart out all the way to the line, but bumped into a similarly talented rival carrying much less weight. He handles cut so should remain competitive in the autumn.
King Triton ran a cracker on his handicap debut to finish third. He went along near the pace but lacked the speed required to stay comfortable for long enough to threaten. He rallied well despite that and should learn plenty for the experience. He's one for a longer trip and looks capable of a lot better.
-2.00pts on the day.
Might have another bet or two between 12-1pm. Will tweet if anything's added.
Summer's Knight is a typical Prescott improver, thriving since upped in trip in handicap company. Four of his last five races have yielded wins, the sole defeat being a solid second in a valuable Haydock handicap, and I liked the way he has gone about business in his two runs since. More is required off 8lbs higher than last week's easy win but there's scope for him to do better and any rain shouldn't harm his chances either.
Mirann was one of my selections at Royal Ascot when he ran in the Duke Of Edinburgh handicap and I thought he got a mediocre ride at the time. In fairness, looking back, the gaps didn't come when they were needed and picking up those ahead of him on heavy ground was a tough ask. Since, he ran a good race at Leopardstown over 1m 2f and up a half-mile in trip in a massive field (needs cover), he can get into the mix.
