Monday's Redcar selections were rubbish. Boardman was smashed in the betting but didn't run like it. He might be one for again and may not have been as forward as hoped. Gale Force Maya gave it her best shot and should be winning before too long. Joshua R came in for no support and given his yard, there may be other days in mind. Speed Of Life drifted like a barge and ran accordingly. I know no more than that!
-4.00pts on the day.
That wasn't fun. On we go with a couple of bets at Nottingham.
Plymouth Rock is an interesting runner in this and looks massively overpriced to me. Granted, he flopped in fine style on debut for David Loughnane but that was his first experience of the All-Weather and came without any form of headgear over an extended 1m 1f, which I doubt helped matters. Either way, if you strike that off and concentrate on his peak efforts at John Quinn's, he's going to be lively at this level on a track that suits prominent runners. He's actually back to the same rating defied at Haydock in September and that came in a first-time visor, making the application of blinkers for the first time all the more attractive. My minor worry is the ground and whether it may be a bit fast for him, but he's 20/1 and worth playing.
You won't see many horses over-race as strongly as Shalaa Asker did around Chelmsford last time, Dougie Costello left wishing he had done more bicep curls in order to hold him back. That obviously led to a below-par figure being posted but might have served a purpose in getting the freshness out of him and the race itself was over 6f. He'll be far happier back at the minimum today and whilst his profile is not as attractive as the top two in the betting, I doubt we've got to see the best of him either. A hood going on for the first time might help, this race should be run to suit and on the best of last season's turf outings, he can be in the mix. The price might get bigger as well if anyone punting wants to hold fire and see how it plays out.
